December “Blind Pass” Update – Sanibel and Captiva Islands

Blind Pass Dredging - Sanibel Captiva Islands - SanCap One Source Realty

As promised, we want to update those folks following the Blind Pass Dredging Project on Sanibel and Captiva Islands.  We realize that this is a rare “Wednesday” post for us, but we thought of no better way to say good-bye to 2008 than to look forward to the new projects that will benefit everyone in 2009 and beyond!

As you will read below, there’s lots of activity in the area, and despite some mechanical slow-downs, great progress is being made!

I’ve included screenshots of the actual December report, page by page, just in case you were not able to download it.  But, there is definitely a link at the bottom of this post allowing you to download the entire document in PDF format if you so choose to, for your own personal use.

Here you go…

Reflections of 2008 on Sanibel Island

Toasting in the New Year on Sanibel IslandWell, I can’t believe it, but yet another year has come and gone!

A toast to you and to 2008!

And as we wrapped up the Christmas activities yesterday, something that commonly happens to me towards the end of every year, well… happened.  I had a moment to sit down alone and reflect on some of the events that have transpired in my life over the past 12 months.

I came across this article a few weeks ago and wanted to save it for this end-of-the-year post to help not only myself, but hopefully you as well.

It was a single webpage with an article written by a gentlemen named Michael Angier.  It was short and to the point and asked 10 simple questions that one can answer in wrapping up one year and moving forward into the next.

I really liked the article and you can read it in its entirety right here, however, I will save you the suspense and post the 10 questions for reflection below:

During this past year…

  1. What did I learn? (skills, knowledge, awareness, etc.)
  2. What did I accomplish? A list of my wins and achievements.
  3. What would I have done differently? Why?
  4. What did I complete or release? What still feels incomplete to me?
  5. What were the most significant events of the year past? List the top three.
  6. What did I do right? What do I feel especially good about? What was my greatest contribution?
  7. What were the fun things I did? What were the not-so-fun?
  8. What were my biggest challenges/roadblocks/difficulties?
  9. How am I different this year than last?
  10. For what am I particularly grateful?

Now that’s a powerful list, wouldn’t you say?  So, I sat down and took the time to fill out each question and I hope that you will too.  It may feel like an exercise in futility, but I believe (and there are many studies out there showing it as well) that when you take the time to actually write something down, it somehow gets “seeded” in your brain and has a much higher chance of happening…  So, don’t forget to include the positive changes that you will make to the items on your list that needed improving… Every little bit helps!

Another toast to you for finishing 2008 on top and we are looking forward to meeting you in 2009!

See you next year (week),

Rob and Sandy

Where is Santa Now?

If you’ve ever wondered where Santa Claus hangs out as the elves are preparing the gifts and loading up the sleigh for his long Christmas journey, well wonder no further…

Santa hangs out on Sanibel Island… soaking up the rays!

Santa Claus on Sanibel Island Beach

If you are spending Christmas on Sanibel or Captiva Islands, you can find Santa in the most unlikely of places, he tends to just pop up here and there at different restaurants and shops often unannounced.  We think that he likes the element of surprise in his visitors’ faces!

Well, Rob and I wish you the happiest of Christmas’ and hope that you are sharing this wonderful time of the year with family and friends.

We all have a lot to be thankful for this year and we want to thank you, dear reader, for reading along with us each and every week!

Enjoy a relaxing Christmas week,

Rob and Sandy

Tree Lighting on Captiva Island

If this doesn’t get you in the mood for Christmas, then nothing will!

It was an action-packed, musical, fireworks-popping kinda night that kicked off the Holiday season literally with a BANG!

The gorgeous ‘Tween Waters Inn on Captiva Island had their annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Celebration as always on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.  I’ve only now just gotten my hands on the fun video documenting the events of the evening and I couldn’t wait to share it with you to get you even more into the Christmas Spirit this year.

So enjoy and have a great weekend,

Rob and Sandy

The Luminary Festival Is On Sanibel Island Tonight!

luminaryWell, are you guys ready for the big events tonight and tomorrow night?

The 24th Annual Luminary Festival put on by our very own local Chamber of Commerce.  Tonight (Friday) the festival is on Sanibel Island and tomorrow night (Saturday) the Festival continues on Captiva Island.

What a fun night it will be for each event, where locals and visitors will have 3 miles of beautifully lit-up storefronts and restaurants all decked out and ready for folks to stroll in and out of (and hopefully buy something – wink wink).  Most, if not all, Chamber member businesses take part in this annual holiday celebration.

There will be live music and even a live nativity scene.  And, of course, as this party officially kicks off our holiday season, it just wouldn’t be the same without Santa, so he’ll be there as well for some great Kodak Moments!

This is definitely an event for the whole family to enjoy together.  It starts right at dusk (around 5:30pm) and goes until 9:00pm”ish”.

You can get more details here at the Chamber of Commerce website.

Hope to see you all there tonight!

Rob and Sandy
