Take a Pet Home For the Holidays – Gulf Coast Humane Society

Being animal lovers ourselves, Rob and I wanted to plug the Gulf Coast Humane Society this year for the holidays, hoping that a few of you locally may be thinking about a pet in your future and will head over and “make some dog or cat’s day” by giving them a loving home!

The Humane Society (located at 2010 Arcadia St in Ft. Myers) does such a great job of taking care of lost or abandoned pets and preparing them for adoption, that someone just needs to do a shout-out to them and thank them for their caring efforts…

Right now, their website showcases 44 adorable dogs of all sizes, shapes and breeds, as well as 9 cuddly cats… all just waiting to meet YOU!

So, make someone’s day and at least go have a look… a new best friend and companion could be in your future…

Have a great weekend,

Sandy and Rob

The 29th Annual “Taste Of the Islands” on Sanibel Island is Just Around the Corner!

Yessirree, it is that time of year again when Sanibel Island’s best-of-the-best chefs compete for the highly sought after “Taste of the Taste” Award signifying that their dish has won the 29th Annual “Taste of the Islands” Top Honor!

Make sure you mark your calendar for Sunday, November 21st from 12pm to 5pm at the Sanibel Community Park on 2231 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel Island.

You better get there early and definitely bring your appetite because it will be an action-packed 5 hours of sampling every kind of delicacy that you can imagine.  A new twist this year is that the judges have asked that each chef include one indigenous ingredient in their dish to give it a more “local” flair…  this should be really interesting!

You can get even more details and the long list of different awards being given out by category right here at:  29th Annual Taste of the Islands on Sanibel Island

Of course, this is all for a great cause, as half of the restaurant proceeds and all of the entry fees go to our beloved C.R.O.W. Wildlife Refuge!!

So, we will definitely see you there!

Have a great weekend,

Sandy and Rob

What Are You Doing For Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

Hey all,

Of course, you are fully aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, right?  Well, if not, then where the heck have you been?

Apart from the adorable pink bracelets being handed out from every South Florida post office, there have been, and continue to be, multiple events going on all month long to raise money for this tremendously important cause… maybe you’ve already taken part in some of them…

But, just in case, I wanted to highlight a few events coming up in the next couple of weeks throughout South Florida and especially nearby, here in Ft. Myers.

Here is the detailed info below:

Sanibel Island’s F.I.S.H. 10K Run For Good Cause

Yep, that’s right, the Second Annual F.I.S.H. 10K Run is coming up soon and we sure wouldn’t want you to miss it!

“Friends in Service Here (F.I.S.H.)” is a non-profit, volunteer organization that helps those in need on Sanibel and Captiva Islands and this year’s fundraising event is sure to be a big hit after seeing the turn out last year.

Over 500 runners from all over are scheduled to take off running at 7:30am on Saturday, October 16th.  Are you registered yet?

It’s great fun and it’s for a really great cause, so make sure you head over to the Sanibel Community Center, even if you’re not running, to experience the Expo and help cheer on the participants!

Oh, I almost forgot, if you’re coming from out of town, the Kona Kai Hotel located at 1539 Periwinkle Way, (239) 472-1001, will be offering a special rate of only $79/night if you mention the F.I.S.H 10K… Ya gotta love discounts!  😉

You can get more information at the Runner’s World website here:  Sanibel F.I.S.H. 10K Run

Hope to see you there!

Have a great weekend,

Sandy and Rob

The Hammerheads on Sanibel Island ROCK!

OK, it’s time we pay tribute to a special group of volunteers right here on Sanibel Island called The Hammerheads!

The Hammerheads are a small group of men consisting of Harry Bertossa, Demo Scutakes, George McKinnell, Wally Kain, Sandy Montclar, Les Forney, Sam Bailey and Dean Skaugstad that volunteer over at the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village. These steady-handed, clear-minded, open-hearted (shall I go on…  🙂 ) men should make us all proud!

Because it is through their efforts that ALL of the boardwalks at the Museum and Village have been replaced with environmentally-friendly Trex Lumber for the safety of all who visit our beautiful historical site…

Needless to say, you must get out there to 950 Dunlop Road and see their handywork, it’s really somethin’!!

You can read more about Sanibel Historical Museum and Village right here or, of course, you can always refer back to the post I wrote to you on April 16th called “A Walk Down Memory Lane” right here in this blog…

Thanks Hammerheads!  We love you!

Have a great weekend,

Sandy and Rob

The winner of the live and silent auctions will receive an exclusive Sanibel Island Getaway, a diamond pendant, a helicopter tour and other valuable prizes.

You can read all about the juicy details here: Award-Winning “Men Who Cook” Goes Hollywood

Why can’t we do something like this on Sanibel?  And make the Getway to Fiji or something?

I love to watch men cook!  🙂

See you next week!
